Mathew Barney

Time spent taking pre-med courses, playing American Football and doing some male modelling work leave their mark on his later work.

First gallery shows at Stuart Regen in Los Angeles and Barbara Gladstone in New York follow.

In 1995 the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, Rotterdam organizes Pace Car for the Hubris Pill, a large exhibition of his work to date. The exhibition travels to capc, Bordeaux and Kunsthalle Bern.

From 1994 to 2002 Barney works on the five part Cremaster Cycle. This work is shown in an exhibition which opens at Museum Ludwig, Cologne, and is shown in Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris before being installed at the Guggenheim, New York, the originating institution. More than 300,000 visitors see the exhibition in New York.
